Inline equations: E=MC^2 consist of adding a $ and $ to the start and end of your equation e.g $E=MC^2$
Block Equations: involve adding two ampersands to the start and end of your equation like so
$$
a^2 + b^2 == c^2
$$
which renders as
a^2 + b^2 == c^2
Note: the newlines are important!
